What exactly is a myth?
A myth is a story that may or may not be true. There are often no records or proof that the myth happened. Some myths have factual origins, while others are completely fictional. However myths are more than simple stories – many serve a more profound purpose in ancient and modern cultures. Mythology is a collection of traditional stories that express the beliefs or values of a group of people. The stories often focus on human qualities such as good and evil.
They are often considered to be sacred and may explain how things came to be. The myths gave human emotions and qualities to the super-natural beings who were the heroes of their stories.
A myth can also be a story that tries to explain the way the world is. People have always wanted to know the reasons for natural phenomena, for example how was the Universe created, what is the reason for thunder……. Myths often include gods and goddesses and other supernatural characters who have the power to make extraordinary things happen and are popular even when people know the actual reasons for the natural phenomena. Religion, gods, and myths were created when people tried to have an answer to these questions.

Hello! C’est vrai que ce n’est pas toujours très clair. Il faut tout d’abord présenter la notion (définir la notion et les différents sujets abordés en classe) et ensuite présenter plusieurs documents qui illustrent bien cette notion. A chaque fois il faut justifier votre choix de document et donner votre avis. Par exemple: « I would first like to talk about an article about Rosa Parks that we studied in class. I have chosen this article because in my opinion it best illustrates what I consider to be a hero – someone who is admired for his or her courage. Rosa Parks was a very brave woman and was not afraid to stand up for her rights » Ensuite vous présentez votre document.

Quelle est la différence entre le rêve américain et eillis island?
Alors le rêve américain est l’idée selon laquelle n’importe quelle personne vivant aux États-Unis, par son travail, son courage et sa détermination, peut devenir prospère. Et c’est ce « rêve » qui a motivé des milliers de personnes à immigrer aux États-Unis. Ellis Island était la principale porte d’entrée pour les immigrés arrivant de l’Europe. Pour la notion de myth and heroes est-ce qu’on doit parler des deux? Et si oui comment? Je ne vois pas comment je pourrais parler de Rosa Parks puis parler parler d’un mythe. Merci d’avance
Hello Alice! Bonne question! A partir du moment où on choisit la notion mythe et héros on peut parler soit de mythes, soit de héros. C’est vrai que les deux sont différents! Surtout dans le cas de Rosa Parks. Il faut juste définir dans l’introduction ce qu’est un mythe et un héro – ensuite tu peux illustrer avec l’exemple de Rosa Parks.

pour Ellis Island, je dirais que c’est plutôt la notion de « Spaces and Exchanges ». Par contre si on parle du rêve américain, l’espoir des immigrants en arrivant à New York, ça pourrait être lié à la notion de « mythes et héros ». Les immigrants arrivaient avec leurs espoirs et illusions sur leur nouvelle vie mais en arrivant à Ellis Island ils etaient souvent décus, certains obligés de retourner chez eux ou mis en quarantaine.
