hello anglaispourlebac i was wondering if the counterculture of the sixties(music revolutions civil rights movement hippies and antiwar movements)could fit in the notion idea of progress knowing Im using one of your problematic To what extent does progress change our vision of the others and of the world?

A myth is a popular belief, whose the part of truth is variable, a hero is someone that is admired for his act, his courage or his determination in the defence of the good, these two notions are strongly lied, and a hero is part of the myth, or more, the hero can be the base of the myth. But further than the definition. These notions have an important impact on our society, now and by the past. They have greatly contributed in the construction of the national identity, and by the way in the construction of the nation or in the state policy. For illustrate this we will study the role, the utilisation and the evolution of myth and heroes in American society, for that we will talk of the American dream who are one of the founder myth of the USA and of the 11th September, who have greatly impacted the American society.
Because of there importance, myth and heroes was the subject of many manipulation. This is for a part the case of the American dream, but of course, the greater myth, and the most famous heroes had to have a part of reality in it.
In the history, the numerous migrants have seen within them the apparition of “self made men” who, with nothing, had built greatest empire of the world and make more and more attractive the USA. Henry Ford can be considered for one of these powerful men, but as we has see in class, the figure of Henry Ford and his action can be subject at discussion. By his imagination in the organisation of the production, he had produced for low cost many cars, like the famous Ford T. But the most clever is that the workers of the factory had enough wages for bought the car. But behind this, Ford want mostly had a flexible manpower, ready to accept the dehumanised work chain because of good salary, and who will not think of her conditions: for this point Henry Ford choose only workers who didn’t read and think too much, who had a proper life. As we can see a large part of the Ford’s story had been prettify, but in the same time, the fact show how the standard of living of the workers had been increase.
But far of these discussable heroes and myth, the American society claims less political and more human heroes, like the fire-fighter of the 11th September. Who had courageously brave the fire of the tower, fallen because of the terrorist attack. Protecting the innocent population despite of the danger, these men correspond to the qualities promoted by the American Dream. Indeed they have brave the danger. Like the pioneer who live under the menace of natives populations and natural dangers. They have die or risked the death for protect the liberty to live in peace of the American civil population, who is another pillar of the American identity. Further than the role of these courageous men, the 11th September take an important place in the American society because that he is the first attack of the exterior against the civil population of USA, and the 11th September become a patriotical myth. And we can think that, the years passed, he will evolved though the personal and national passion.
As we have see, myth and heroes have in common to be major in all spiritual, mental construction. But because of that, they have to suffer of personal and national passion, who make evolved the reality, sometimes for discriminate something, other time for elevate another things. It’s why we have to aboard these myth and heroes with a necessary recoil. For sort out fact from fiction.

Il faut le simplifier et n’oublie pas que tu ne l’auras pas sous les yeux le jour de ton oral. J’ai une question! Je donne des cours d’anglais à deux élèves de terminale, un en TES et l’autre TS. Je pensais qu’ils auraient étudié les mêmes documents pour chaque sujet mais apparemment non ! Je me retrouve donc à cours d »idées pour aider mon TS à préparer son oral car je ne trouve pas grand chose sur ce qu’il a étudié en classe… il ont fait le film Gatteca, Family Matters/The Nuclear Family/, le roman « It », une vidéo sur Violence in Society, The American Dream (celui là ça va) et Equal opportunities… J’ai peut-être mal regardé mais avez-vous mentionné ces sujets là sur votre site? ça nous serait très utile. Merci encore pour ce site, il est d’une aide formidable : pour élèves et profs y compris !

Non à part « the American dream » je n’ai pas encore mentionné ces sujets sur le blog. Il faut juste l’aider à présenter la notion tout en l’illustrant avec quelques documents vus en classe. L’article avec les vidéos que j’ai publié la semaine dernière peut peut-être aider?
